Organic businesses combine

TWO leading West Country organic food businesses are getting together. Devon-based Eversfield Organic Ltd, one of the UK’s top organic grocery services, has announced the incorporation of Coombe Farm Organic, based near Crewkerne in Somerset.

This strategic move will double the size of Eversfield Organic’s online butchery business and the company says this will enhance its ability to provide its customer base with the highest standard of ethically sourced meat.

Mark Bury, managing director of Eversfield Organic, which he founded in 2004, says: ”We’re excited to be able to continue the outstanding mission that Coombe Farm Organic has set out to accomplish. We have been incredibly impressed by their ethos and their dedication to providing customers with an exceptional range of sustainable and traceable products.

“Coombe Farm Organic prioritises sustainability, care for the land, and a traceable supply chain, just as we do at Eversfield Organic. Both businesses are committed to minimising their environmental impact and are working hard to reduce single-use plastics through recyclable packaging and eliminate waste through innovative initiatives such as their own Home Farm Kitchen range.”

As part of the incorporation, Eversfield Organic will assume management of Coombe Farm Organic’s operations, including its online butchery and all future deliveries.

Eversfield Organic began as a local organic grocery service and has since expanded to offer nationwide deliveries. In addition to its online presence, Eversfield Organic operates a number of farm shops, organic inns and cafés as well as running the butcher and fishmongers in Selfridges Food Hall, London.

After acquiring the farm more than 20 years ago, Mark and his family worked hard to restore the land back to health after years of intensive farming. After several years, planting more than 30,000 trees, reinstating miles of hedgerows and laying fencing, the farm was granted organic status. Wildlife – birds, deer and insects – has returned to the farm, where Mark, working with the Rare Breeds Survival Trust, rears a herd of native Aberdeen Angus cattle fed on a 100 per cent pasture diet.

Eversfield Organic began by offering their own fresh, Soil Association organic certified beef, as well as organic lamb, pork, poultry, and wild game. The range now covers everything from organic fruit, vegetables, dairy and charcuterie, to vegetarian and vegan alternatives, and wild fish.
