TREVOR Pinnock, harpsichordist and one of the leading figures in period performance music, is coming to Tisbury on Thursday 29th October to conduct the Cherubim Chamber Strings in a programme of mainly baroque music,
The event is celebrating the silver jubilee of the Cherubim Music Trust, a Tisbury-based national charity that loans professional calibre orchestral instruments to advanced music students aged 15-25 who can’t afford one that matches their ability.
The concert, at St John’s Church at 6pm, features cellist Vashti Hunter, who was the recipient of the Trust’s first instrument, bought with funds from the Rothermere Foundation. Vashti, who now lives in Vienna, working as a soloist, chamber musician and teacher, will be the soloist in Haydn’s C major Cello Concerto, and with Ivan Carillo will play cello duets by Barriere.
The programme also includes Albinoni’s Adagio, Peter Warlock’s Capriol Suite, and Bach’s double violin concerto, with soloists Nirvana Che-Lai and Emily Li.
Trevor Pinnock, founder and director of The English Concert, has been a supportive patron of the Cherubim Music Trust, giving several harpsichord recitals to support its work.
Cherubim Chamber Strings began as an ensemble to accompany Cherubim’s choral weekends, initially under the baton of Harry Bradford. Last year it gave its first stand-alone concert, conducted by Arturo Serna.
