Still waiting … Beckett at the Street Studio

SAMUEL Beckett’s existential classic Waiting For Godot will be on stage at the Studio of Strode Theatre in Street, from Wednesday 28th to Saturday 31st October, nightly at 7.30.

Produced in house and directed by Adam Lanfranchi, it explores the complex and shape-shifting story of two tramps, Vladimir and Estragon, as they wait by a lonely tree for the arrival of Mr Godot. They are hoping he can change their lives for the better, but their “conversations” blur time, place and memory, almost repetitive but often tangential.

As the audience searches for the meaning of their inevitably disappointed wait, two eccentric travellers arrive, one man on the end of the other’s rope. The results are both funny and tragic.

The more often you see Waiting for Godot, the more interpretations and solutions you find. That’s Beckett’s unique talent, and why his challenging and sometimes infuriating plays last through the generations.

The production is helping raise money directly for the theatre and also gives our very talented local cast a chance to be involved in an in-house production.

Vladimir is played by Dave Palmer and Estragon by John Howden. Martyn Jessop is the entitled Pozzo and Phoebe Lynch the enslaved. The role of the boy is shared by Oren Franklin and Zahan Kian Puki Turel-Kerr.
